Dear members and friends of the STA
The Swiss Society for Technology and the Armed Forces (STA) is an association that sees itself as an independent link between the armed forces, procurement authorities, business, and academia. The STA promotes dialogue between these stakeholders and actively contributes to deepening mutual understanding, particularly regarding the planning, development, procurement, use, and disposal of goods and services required for the implementation of Swiss security and armaments policy.
The STA has existed since 1955 and has around 400 members. It aims to be an established partner of the Swiss security network and is committed to
- the maintenance and further development of appropriate core defence capabilities in Switzerland
- promoting national and international exchange of information on security and armaments policy issues
- the contacts, exchange of information and opinion formation between the army, procurement authorities, business and science
- dialogue with the public and political authorities.
The following five postulates of the STA replace the previous seven theses from 2016 and are primarily focused on the "Federal Council's Principles on the Armaments Policy of the DDPS" of October 24, 2018, and the DDPS's "Armaments Strategy" of January 1, 2020. The STA is the only association that focuses on planning and implementing the guidelines set out in these documents by continuously monitoring them and taking a clear stance. These efforts will be briefly and concisely described in the following five postulates and discussed with you on our platforms.
With this brochure, we hope you'll be encouraged to contribute your own thoughts and participate in the dialogue within our society. We hope you enjoy reading it and look forward to engaging with you!
Kind regards, Your STA Board
